What is Private Duty Nursing?

When it comes to public versus private nursing, private nursing is much more personalized. Private duty nursing is when a RN or LPN provides in-home care to an individual patient. Home care nursing provides consistent care, helping patients live comfortably in their home.

Depending on the amount of care needed, patients and a dedicated nurse work together as much as possible. This one-on-one, consistent treatment helps form strong connections between nurses and patients. Nurses essentially become a family member, truly understanding the patient’s needs.

Our Private Duty Nurse (PDN) Services

Private duty nurses at Southern Comfort provide a variety of medical management services. All services aim to help patients remain in their home and reduce the need for hospitalization. 

Southern Comfort’s nursing program can be carried out wherever a patient calls home. Whether it is their own house, an assisted living home, or with a family caregiver, we provide care. Services are available up to 24 hours a day, seven days a week, depending on the patient’s needs. 

Private duty nurses different from private duty aides in that light housekeeping is not provided. Although nurses provide medical care, the support and relationships they develop reach far wider than medical care alone.

Medication Management

RNs and LPNs are legally authorized to fill patient’s medication boxes and administer medications. Nurses help patients take the proper medications and dosage at the right time of day, and request refills when needed. Medication management also includes the monitoring of side effects and the performance of the medication overall.

Wound Care Management

Private duty nurses provide wound care management and treatment, ensuring wounds heal properly. Wound care management helps patients feel as little discomfort as possible as they recover. Treatment also helps prevent infection, reduces scarring, and shortens the healing process.

IV Monitoring
